Above and Beyond Students Inc

Would it surprise you to know that everyday over 1,500,000 children go home afterschool unsupervised  without any adult supervision.  The afterschool hours are the most critical hours for youth, and have been determined to be the times when more students experiment with drugs,  start smoking, sex, join gangs, and participate in other age inappropriate activities. 

Students left home unattended is not their problem it is our problem and it is a problem that can be fixed.  To address this problem Above and Beyond Students Inc, a nonprofit afterschool founded and created SOAR.  SOAR is an acronym for Support Our Afterschool  Resources.   We believe "If you WALK, children can SOAR"  They can soar academically, socially and into a promising future.

Afterschool provides children with many opportunites to help them become succesful students.  It provides them with oportunities to engage in art, music, drama, dance, leadership and so much more.  The world of afterschool can open the door to various opportunities for youth. 

Many youth tell stories of how afterschool helped keep them from joining gangs, helped their grades improved, and helped improve their self esteem.  We have the opportunity to be a part of the solution and prepare our youth to lead us into the 21st Century and be prepared for the global economy we now live in.

In my 10 years as Director of Above and Beyond Students I have personally witnessed students go from making F's and D's to the A/B honor roll.  All they needed was encouragement, mentoring and positive engagement with other youth. I have personally had youth tell me if they were not in afterschool, they would "be hanging out, getting into all kinds of trouble" to put it in their own words. Some youth find themselves with no one to confide in. Afterschool is sometimes the venue where they find they find a caring heart and open ear. 

Please join us as we walk to raise money to support our youth.  We believe "IF YOU WALK, CHILDREN WILL SOAR".  No donation is to small or to large.  Together we can open doors for youth in every community to participate in quality effective afterschool programs.
