The Abundance Project creates equitable access to exquisite birth and postpartum doula care in Boulder County and surrounding communities. We provide partial financial sponsorships for doula care to families with economic and access challenges. The Abundance Project is committed to removing economic, racial, and ethnic disparities in maternal healthcare.
We partner with our sister organization, Sanctuary Doulas + Family Care, that provides the birth and postpartum doula care. We believe this care can have the most profound impact with exquisite birth doula care in hospitals, birth centers, and home settings, as well as postpartum care in families' homes. Some services are also available virtually.
In 2016, the original "Postpartum Abundance Project" was created as a solution to remove economic, racial & ethnic disparities in maternal health care in our local community. Our first year, we raised $2,400 and served 5 families in need with 80 hours of exceptional postpartum doula care.
In 2018, we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and changed our name to "The Abundance Project" to be inclusive of the beneficial birth and postpartum doula care continuum. And we're still growing! In 2022, we provided $29,500 in partial financial sponsorships to 14 local families including 3 mothers receiving birth doula care plus 12 families receiving 467 hours of postpartum doula care. That's right 2 mothers received the new gold standard of both birth and postpartum doula care!
In 2022, The Abundance Project applied for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant prize with our research proposal "Postpartum Doula Care Reduces BIPOC Mothers’ Hypertension, Depression, and Anxiety" (IRB Approved Research Study: #46213). The Abundance Project is proud to be one of nine nationwide non-profit organizations chosen to participate in the final phase of the Implementing a Maternal health and PRegnancy Outcomes Vision for Everyone (IMPROVE) Initiative - a $3 million prize competition from the NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to incentivize non-profit organizations to develop the capabilities, infrastructure, and experience to conduct research projects that seek to improve maternal health outcomes in their communities. We are currently recruiting participants to our research study and will submit our final NIH report in June 2024.
In 2023, our generous donors have already contributed $20,769 to provide partial financial sponsorships for doula care. Thank you donors!
A heartfelt thank you from the depths of one of our recipient's heart!
"Thank you immensely for the generous partial financial sponsorship for my postpartum care. This generous gesture has been a beacon of hope for my journey as a single mom in these demanding times. I am also profoundly touched by the five postpartum doulas who stood by me during the initial days after birth. Their faith in me not only paved my path as a mother, but ignited my potential to empower and uplift women and families in my community after I graduate from University of Denver and return to Africa. May your kindness be paid back to you and may your compassion keep illuminating lives! Thank you for touching our lives in such significant way! We are forever grateful and can't wait to pay it forward after my education at DU! It is because of angels like you that Boulder feels like home!"
With warmest gratitudes,
Claudine and son Michael
