Allamakee County Community Foundation

This past year, while still in the middle of COVID, the regional coordinator for Vision to Learn approached the Allamakee County Community Foundation. A school district had contacted them to come screen, provide eye exams and possibly two pair of glasses to students. The school district knew how much eyesite affects a child's ability to read. Although there is no cost to parents for the screening, exams or glasses, there was a large cost to bring the program to Allamakee County due to COVID restrictions, extra PPPs and sanitation. A call was made and the costs were covered by a donor's endowment fund. Two school districts were subsequently screened with well over 1,000 students. This is the power of endowments. What a difference for those many students!
