The request was humble and profound: “I wish to request some materials to start gardening or farming work, in order to take care of myself. If I start this, I can create jobs for my friends in the refugee community.” This was the American Dream of Fernand Loumouamou, an African refugee who fled his native Congo after civil war robbed him of his family, his land and his livelihood. After a decade spent in a Benin refugee camp, Fernand came to Tucson in 2008 with the support of the International Rescue Committee. Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona helped him find Accion New Mexico ∙ Arizona ∙ Colorado.
 
Fernand is one of the many business owners within Accion’s diverse client community. He started with just a $200 Accion credit-building loan. Five years and six loans later, Fernand’s enterprise, Agribusiness Tucson AZ, is going strong, providing him a job, a community of support and a future.
