The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona was founded in 1959 by a small group of civil libertarians who recognized the importance of having an institution that would stand in defense of liberty in this state. Those few shared the conviction that the preservation of liberty requires a vigilant defense of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Today, the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Arizona is responsible for public education programs and litigation in defense of civil liberties.

Our Mission:

The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone.

To defend the Constitution and keep America safe and free, the ACLU of Arizona needs the support of every Arizonan who cares about protecting our precious civil liberties.

You can help defend the traditional American values enshrined in the Bill of Rights by supporting the work of the American Civil Liberties Union, and its local affiliate, the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona.

The ACLU of Arizona was formed and officially chartered by the national organization over 50 years ago. Since that time, we have fought to defend individual rights in Arizona through litigation, legislation, and public education.
