The Actors’ Gang presents new, unconventional and uncompromising plays and dynamic reinterpretations of the classics; restores the ancient sense of the stage as a shared sacred space; introduces theatre to children and helps them find their own creative voices; and brings the freedom of self-expression to the incarcerated.

Founded in 1981 by a group of UCLA graduates, The Actors’ Gang—under the leadership of Tim Robbins, Founding Artistic Director—has received international acclaim, presenting over 150 plays in Los Angeles, toured in over 40 U.S. states and on five continents, reaching over 250,000 people.

Throughout our 34 year history the Actors Gang has run vigorous Education and Outreach programs. In 2006 we launched our Prison Project which has since expanded to five California Correctional Institutions and has been recognized and supported by the California Department of Corrections, California Governor Jerry Brown and the U.S. Department of Justice.

In response to budget cuts that have nearly eliminated arts programs in the Los Angeles public school system, The Actors' Gang helps to fill the arts education gap by providing free in-school, after school, and summer programs to students of all ages and economically challenged backgrounds in the Los Angeles area.

Supporters like you that allow us to develop and stage bold theatrical performances; continue to fill the arts gap among at-risk youth; and inspire positive social change among prisoners and parolees and through our life changing outreach programs.
