Adamstown Area Library

The Adamstown Area Library serves approximately 31,500 residents in Adamstown, Denver, Brecknock Township, East Cocalico and West Cocalico Townships as well as people in nearby communities. Generations of residents have loved and used our library for nearly 80 years, since 1945.

In 2020, the Library built a brand new library on Main Street, which tripled the library's available space. Currently, the library houses over 31,000 physical items, 6 public computers, a children's play area, an adult reading room with fireplace, and a programming room.  The Library has a staff of three full time librarians and eight part time staff.  In 2023, we circulated 214,969 items, hosted 523 programs with 15,902 attendees of all ages, and had 2,600 visitors log on to our public computers. 

Our mission is to serve as a vibrant community hub utilizing extensive resources to provide innovative programming and services that engage and educate residents of all ages and cultures.  Our goal is to serve every member of our community and make the library the place where people gather to read, research, study, learn, socialize, and do business. Libraries now are more than books, they are community centers that provide a wide range of free events and services for individuals, families and communities.

We serve approximately 60 families a week at our innovative storytimes, while providing support and resources for families to flourish. Adults attend biweekly and monthly social events and presentations on useful topics. Seniors come in each week for technology help and training. Kids enjoy summer adventures with interactive wildlife programs, cartooning, and other hands-on events.

Residents have affirmed that Adamstown Area Library is a critical institution in their lives, whose importance and relevance continues to grow.
