Advantage Credit Counseling Service

A nonprofit organization

As a nonprofit organization, the Agency provides professional, meaningful and confidential consumer education and budget/credit counseling and develops effective debt reduction programs for all segments of the community that we serve. The Agency educates consumers about wise money management and the responsible use of credit.

During a budget/credit counseling session, a certified credit counselor will conduct a comprehensive review of a consumer's income, expenses and debt. During this budget analysis, the counselor asks probing questions about a consumer's spending habits, including the amount spent on lottery tickets, gifts for family and dining out. After completing the budget analysis, the counselor will develop an action plan for the consumer. The action plan provides detailed money management suggestions relevant to the consumer's situation. A session lasts approximately one hour and may take place in person or over the phone. If it is appropriate, the Agency may recommend enrollment in a debt management program (DMP). The client will send the Agency a monthly payment and the Agency will disburse the payment to the client's creditors. Plans last approximately 60 months and when complete; their debt will be completely paid off. The Agency charges a monthly fee of up to $50 for the service.
