Advocates for the West Inc

Advocates for the West is working with Idaho Conservation League (ICL), Idaho Rivers United (IRU), and other partners to fight for clean air and water in Boise.

AIR: Treasure Valley residents know all too well the oppression of the winter inversion, which blocks glorious sunshine and traps pollution for days – sometimes weeks. We also know the hazy skies of hot summer days when smog or forest fire smoke blankets the Valley. While Boise continues to regularly rank high on livability lists, due in large part to the healthy and active outdoor lifestyles we enjoy here, Boise also suffers from growing air pollution problems. This is a trend AFW is working to reverse. Advocates for the West is partnering with ICL on multiple initiatives to clean up our air.

WATER: In a series of cases with clients ICL and IRU, AFW is also fighting to protect the Boise River from mining, agricultural, and stormwater pollution. The Boise River is the Treasure Valley's favorite playground and the source of 20% of our drinking water. Our mining cases seek to prevent disasters that can come from large-scale mining, like the Gold King spill in Colorado's Animas River or the Mount Polley dam failure in Canada. In other cases, we are pushing for stronger water quality standards and policing polluters.
