Brief History of ALARM
In 1994, African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM) was founded as a response to the Rwandan genocide and the civil and political unrest within Burundi and the DR Congo. Rev. Dr. Celestin Musekura survived the Rwandan Genocide and was left with a burden and calling to train and equip servant leaders in Africa while promoting inner healing and reconciliation. Rev. Dr. Celestin recognized the critical need to empower community leaders to understand the value of servant leadership, biblical peacebuilding, healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, and restorative justice.
In 1996, Rev. Dr. Celestin Musekura came to Dallas Theological Seminary for doctoral research on biblical and communal forgiveness. In 1998, ALARM US was registered to raise funds and mobilize individuals, families, and churches to support ALARM ministries performed by indigenous Africans in East and Central Africa.
Over the past many years, ALARM has succeeded in equipping servant leaders of all backgrounds and professions to advocate for peace, justice, and reconciliation while transforming communities. ALARM has expanded into the US and 8 African countries as the years have progressed. Currently ALARM has registered offices in Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and the US.
ALARM in North Texas
Injustice and trauma from racism and tribalism have lasting impacts on Africans still living in their homeland as well as those dispersed throughout the world. ALARM's mission is to promote peacebuilding and reconciliation wherever African communities exist by engaging and educating public servants, community influencers, and religious leaders. ALARM's programs restore peaceful coexistence, personal dignity, and community prosperity through carefully guided steps of confession, forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation. In North Texas, ALARM is now deploying this proven approach with African immigrants settling in our region. Despite many challenges in adapting to a foreign culture, ALARM helps Africans build strong families that share love with each other and their new neighbors.
