Agape is a Greek word meaning "love", an active love that isn't satisfied serving only itself, but instead fulfills its purpose in reaching out and helping others. While AGAPE of North Alabama is a state-licensed agency, it is also a family…a family that reaches out with compassion to help others in need!
AGAPE of North Alabama, Inc., a non-profit child-placing agency headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, has been in operation since 1969. During that time, AGAPE has provided the highest level of adoption and foster care services to maternity clients, infants, children, and families in the 22 northern counties of the state.
Throughout its history, AGAPE has helped thousands of children by providing foster homes and forever homes for them. Working through AGAPE, hundreds of foster parents have provided shelter, as well as love, stability and security to children placed in their care. AGAPE also works to place many children in carefully screened and selected “forever homes" through adoption.
In those instances when the most important thing is simply a listening ear or some experienced advice, AGAPE offers the services of Christian-based, licensed male and female counselors to help individuals, couples and families sort things out.
Services AGAPE provides include:
AGAPE is committed to finding homes for children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and maltreatment. We provide Alabama's foster children with loving, Christian homes where they can experience peace and stability while working toward permanency. AGAPE's foster parents are trained and supported by full-time foster care professionals who employ evidence-based practices to address the special needs that a child has when they've experience abuse or neglect. Social workers provide Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) services to each home, and will soon (beginning in spring of 2019) provide Attachment and Bio-Behavioral Catch-Up (ABC) intervention for the youngest children. These interventions are not offered by any other agency in the state, and because of these services, children are experiencing a level of healing unavailable to them before.
AGAPE has an established adoption program through our work with birth parents and Alabama's Department of Human Resources. Each year, AGAPE finds forever homes for children through private, infant, and state adoptions.
Home Study Services
AGAPE is happy to offer both domestic and international home study services for Alabama adoptive applicants who are utilizing other placement agencies.
Birth Parent Assistance
AGAPE provides assistance for clients wishing to make an adoption plan for her child. We help to match birth families with adoptive families to ensure the best adoption experience possible.
During the past 42 years, AGAPE has assisted individuals and families through Christian-based counseling by licensed counselors. From day one, their goal has been to improve the quality of life for those needing help. This has been as true for the recently-widowed, struggling with grief, as it is for the adoptive family, dealing with an attachment disorder - as true for a teen facing identity problems as it has been for the couple wanting to communicate on a deeper level.
“I was faced with the biggest decision of my life – I felt like my world was caving in. AGAPE was a Godsend to me. I really don’t know if I could have gone through with my decision without their help. I couldn’t provide my baby with a good life and I knew that someone else could. But that still does not stop the pain of making the decision.
I could not give her the life she deserved. AGAPE helped me find the right parents for my baby. I know that they love her and can give her the life I want her to have. AGAPE helped me make the right decision for my baby and for myself, and for that I will be forever grateful.”
