Agriculture for Community Restoration Economic Justice Susta

A.C.R.E.S., which stands for "Agriculture for Community Restoration Economic Justice & Sustainability," is a transformative organization deeply rooted in the empowerment and upliftment of Black communities. Dedicated to empowering Black farmers and communities, A.C.R.E.S. strives to cultivate a culture of self-determination over their food system and built environment. By addressing the historical and ongoing discrimination faced by Black farmers and underserved communities, A.C.R.E.S. amplifies their voices in shaping a more just and inclusive food system.

Through innovative programs such as the Farmer Resource Program, Narrative Building/Storytelling, and Community Ownership, A.C.R.E.S. actively works towards closing the racial wealth gap and fostering economic prosperity for Black farmers and underserved communities. Moreover, A.C.R.E.S. leverages agriculture as a tool to bring environmental justice to North St. Louis city through permaculture designs. In a city plagued by urban decay, poor air quality, and illegal dumping, A.C.R.E.S. utilizes its farm sites to combat these challenges.

By cultivating crops on vacant lots abandoned for over a decade, A.C.R.E.S. effectively deters illegal dumping and revitalizes blighted neighborhoods. The organization's dedication to environmental sustainability extends to growing plants and trees that enhance air quality in these communities. Through these initiatives, A.C.R.E.S. not only tackles environmental issues but also brings beauty and vitality to neighborhoods long plagued by neglect.
