What is PrEP?

AFC is a local and global leader in raising awareness about PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis. It's a once-a-day regimen of a medication taken by HIV-negative people to reduce their risk of HIV infection by greater than 90%.

Why AIDS Foundation of Chicago?

An important way AFC leads the fight against HIV/AIDS is by working to prevent new infections. PrEP is the first new HIV prevention strategy since the male and female condom, and it is fully controled by the receptive partner. Science has shown us it works really well.

What is AFC doing to help increase awareness and access to PrEP?

  • My PrEP Experience is a blog that offers PrEP users a platform to share their stories about using PrEP, and includes helpful informational resources for potential users as well as providers.
  • Project RSP! (Ready, Set, PrEP!) trains the Illinois HIV workforce on PrEP essentials — science, use, and access.
