ʻĀina Alliance is cleaning up the land in Anahola that has deteriorated with illegal dumping.
In the last 4 years, ʻĀina Alliance has removed 72 junked cars off the beaches plus 146,000 pounds of metal, hazardous waste, appliances, and trash.
Board President Jeremie Makepa says “This beautiful coastline of Anahola has been abused and polluted for too long. We're working to restore its beauty by removing abandoned cars, appliances, trash, and hazardous waste. Not only do these dumped materials deface the landscape, they also leak horrible toxins and pollutants onto the beaches and into our bays and ocean."
There is still a lot of work to be done.
It takes heavy machinery and a lot of labor to remove the cars from the remote rocky shoreline: the excavator removes the cars from the sand and rocks, the forklift takes the cars from the remote areas to the road where volunteers clean the cars out of trash and rubbish, then the hired tow truck takes the cars to the metals recycling facility 20 miles away.
Donate to ʻĀina Alliance and you help us to beautify the coastline and prevent the leaching of pollutants on beaches and into the ocean.
Our Vision: A beautiful, thriving place shown by the photos in our Media Gallery below. A place powered by Native Hawaiians guided by the wisdom and practices of our kūpuna and culture.
