One of our programs, the Stock Market Game is an exciting ten-week on-line stock trading game. Student teams invest a virtual $100,000 in stocks and mutual funds and compete for prizes. It is endorsed by the NYSE.  The following are stories about some of our winners.

Team “Dough Dogs,” Blossomwood Elementary fourth graders Duncan Gibbons and Cassidi Williams came in first place in the North Region. When asked about the stocks they decided to buy, Cassadi said that Google came to mind because “millions, no probably billions of people use it every
single day.  I mean, you can even google “Google,” she declared.  Duncan mentioned that one of the factors that helped them determine when to buy was watching the
market for several weeks before they bought and looking at the bar graphs available.”

“Many of them [my students] are so interested in the stock market now,” observed Staci Butts, SMG Teacher/Advisor, Ashville High School. “I feel like the SMG is such a wonderful tool for teachers.  Not only does it help to cover the Course of Study material, it is real life.  I often feel like I am teaching material so that students can be tested on it. However, the SMG makes me feel like I am equipping the students with real life experience that can be very beneficial for them.”
