Founded in 1992, the Alabama Ear Institute (AEI) continues to be in the forefront of addressing issues that impact all individuals with hearing loss.  AEI accomplishes our mission through research, professional & public education and advocacy in the social and public policy arenas.

  • AEI partnered with Children's Hospital and founded the Alabama School for Hearing - the only pre-school in the state for children w/hearing loss utilizing an Auditory Oral/Auditory-Verbal approach to developing spoken language (no manual communication is utilized)
  • AEI advocacy efforts resulted in re-defining teacher requirements for Teachers of the Deaf in Alabama
  • AEI founded the Alabama Newborn Hearing Screening Program (UNHS)
  • Alabama recognized in USA Today as one of top 10 UNHS programs in the country.
  • AEI Auditory-Verbal Mentoring Program mentors and trains education / clinical professionals in spoken language development for children born w/hearing loss
  • Over 1400 professionals from 30 states, Canada & Argentina have received training from AEI in Spoken Language Development
  • AEI School Classroom Sound Field Project - AEI is a leading advocate in providing  technology so all students can adequately hear classroom instruction
  • AEI Weather Radio Program provides radios to individuals w/hearing loss to assist in notifying of weather related emergencies
  • The Alabama Ear Institute:  service to others: education for pre-school children w/hearing loss; continued professional education; research; educational consultation; advocacy in public and social policy arenas . . . AEI . . . a leader in addressing all challenges that impact the quality of life for individuals w/hearing loss and their families!
