From the low and gentle mountains of the north to the pure white sands of the coast, we breathe Alabama's air, drink Alabama's water and depend on Alabama's land. We recognize the positive link between a strong economy, a clean environment and a healthy, proactive citizenry. We work for a healthy environment with an emphasis on improved waste reduction practices, efficient and renewable energy, and clean air. Through this work, we provide a voice for Alabama now and for the future.

The Recycle Alabama campaign is our strongest current effort, aiming to increase individual recycling participation and the quantities recycled in existing programs while finding new opportunities that haven't previously existed in local communities . The Recycle Alabama logo is a unifying symbol across Alabama where a very fragmented network of recycling opportunities exist. We're working across Alabama to reduce the amount of valuable materials going needlessly into landfills, and instead should be going to manufacturers and local industries that can utilize those commodities.

We currently operate the Downtown Birmingham Recycling Center with plans to renovate that location and build a new similar Recycling Center in southern Jefferson County. We also operate a glass-recycling pick-up service for bars and restaurants and an office-paper pickup for small businesses. AEC also provides an event recycling trailer that can be used by local festivals and events. The Recycle Alabama Handbook has been created to assist communities of any size begin a recycling program.
