The Alabama Moving Image Association strive to encourage, inspire and support filmmaking and the appreciation of independent cinema in Alabama by producing the popular Sidewalk Film Festival, the SHOUT LGBT Film Festival, hosting monthly filmmaker networking and education events (Sidewalk Salons), semi-annual short filmmaking competitions (Sidewalk Scrambles), a two-week filmmaking camp for children and working with a variety of non-profit/arts venues to host special indie film screenings throughout the year.

  • 3 Days, 5 Parties, 200 Films, 500 volunteers, 10,000 Attendees- all in Downtown Birmingham
  • 2 Days of FREE Children’s/Family Programming
  • Sidewalk's economic impact on Birmingham is over $1.3 million annually 
  • Named one of the Top 10 Film Festivals for the Rest of Us in Time Magazine
  • Named one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals by MovieMaker magazine
  • Named one of Chris Gore's Best Vacation Film Festivals in The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide
  • Named one of the Top Ten Film Festival Getaways in Film Festival Today
  • These popular and/or cirtically acclaimed films have screened at the festival: Sweet Home Alabama, Napoleon Dynamite, Woman Thou Art Loosed, Supersize Me, Best Worst Movie, Teenage Paparazzo, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Senna, Dogtooth
  • The following stars have enjoyed the Sidewalk experience: John C.
