Alabama Water Watch Association

For over 30 years, Alabama Water Watch (AWW) has trained and organized citizens to monitor the quality and condition of their local waters.  AWW's mission is to improve both water quality and water policy and management through citizen monitoring and action. 

AWW's vision is to have monitors on every water body in Alabama with a goal of ensuring high water quality everywhere as the result of an engaged and informed citizenry taking responsible action to protect and improve water quality.

AWW's programs educate citizens about water issues, train them to gather accurate and reliable water quality data, and empower them to use their data to protect and improve water quality and provide knowledgeable input to promote conscientious management of our water resources. 

As a result of their efforts, Water Watch groups have achieved greater legal protection for Wolf Bay, the Magnolia River, and Lake Martin.  Others have evaluated and protected habitat of endangered species near Birmingham, and educators around the state have used AWW resources to educate students, conduct science projects, and enable students to monitor local streams.
