GREETINGS POTENTIAL DONORS!

The Alabama Choir School was founded in 1985 as the Tuscaloosa Boychoir and began very inauspiciously with 17 brave young boys and 2 staff members.  From those humble beginnings, we are now approximately 200 families strong including 6 choirs:

1. Young Singers - a beginning choir made up of 1st & 2nd grade boys and girls 

2. Childrens Chorus - comprised of 2nd & 3rd grade girls

3. Girls Resident Choir - the next level of training choir for young ladies in grades 4 - 7 (travel in the spring)

4. Alabama Boychoir - consisting of young men from grades 2 - 8 (travel in the spring)

5. Girls Tour Choir - young ladies in grades 5 through 8 (major travel in the spring)

6. Alabama Chamber Choir - young ladies and men in grades 9- 12 (major travel in late spring)

Five staff members comprise the Alabama Choir School:

Doff Procter - Artistic Director / Principle Conductor

Karen Nicolosi - Founder / Conductor

Freida Jacobs - Executive Director

Laurel Procter - Administrator / Artist-in-Residence

Jason Beasley - Accompanist

Our mission is to teach music education to hungry students all around the West Alabama area.  We do that after school in downtown Tuscaloosa at the Christ Episcopal Church on Lurleen Wallace Blvd N.  Not affiliated with the church or the domination in any way, Christ Episcopal has been gracious enough to house the choir school since its inception at absolutely no cost to either the parents or the staff, providing rehearsal spaces, office space and pianos!

We firmly believe that music education is absolutely paramount to a child growing up well-rounded and balanced.  Our philosophy is to teach in a safe and positive environment which we have done over the last 27 years.  Teaching music performance, theory, history, traditions, etc. to 1,000s and 1,000s of young people that have come and gone through our doors
