Alabaster Box International, Inc

We are a 501c3 charitable organization founded by Patti Parrott and Brochelle Sherman. The main focus of our charitable efforts is the Adult Literacy Program in the mountain region of Kenscoff, Haiti, where the literacy rate of adults is about 50%. This is a 3-yr program, and graduates are able to read at about a 4th-grade level and are able to perform simple math. We currently have over 100 students in 4 locations, employing five part-time Teachers and one full-time Inspector/Superintendent. We are reaching the more remote mountain areas around Kenscoff where no other literacy programs are operating. Funding provides salary for teachers and covers the purchase of curriculum, black boards, supplies, etc. We have more community leaders asking for the Literacy program to come to their area than we have funding to cover.

We would also like to drill a well in this community, as there is no running water in this region. The only water source is a spring at the foot of the mountains, which is also used for laundry and bathing, so down stream the water is contaminated.
