The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council was founded as a nonprofit corporation in 1973 and has had it corporate office in Birmingham since that time.

We provide professional counseling support in areas of stress, anger, relationships, addictions and other emotional areas, with the goal of returning to the community a mentally healthy and well-adjusted family or individual.

We began as a resource for those who found themselves in the throes of addiction but have expanded to offer professional counseling of all kinds to an ever-widening expanse of the community.  Our vision is broad, our goals high, and we utilize numerous resources and avenues in order to help as many people as possible in effective, life-changing ways.  Many people who are in need of professional counseling are in a financial bind as well and cannot pay $60 or more per counseling session.  We charge on a sliding scale, according to the client's ability to pay.  We have never refused assistance to any person or family member needing help due to inability to pay.
