Alexandria Cares for the Uninsured

A nonprofit organization

Our campaign, called ACCESS Alexandria, is to bring “Health and Hope” to many of the city’s very low-income uninsured adults, many of whom have been denied comprehensive (and potentially life-saving) health insurance because of the General Assembly’s refusal to expand the Medicaid program, as permitted under the Affordable Care Act. Research clearly shows that without insurance their health suffers greatly.

Our goal is to raise $30,000 through Spring2ACTion. Funds raised through this campaign will support:

(1) The hosting of a Free Community Health Fair for Alexandria’s low-income uninsured being planned for later in the year; and,

(2) The provision of a broad array of preventive health screens at the Fair and the financing of critical primary health care services for the most needy low-income residents who are without a medical home or a routine source of care.

The funds will be administered by Neighborhood Health, the largest community health center serving the poor and the uninsured in Alexandria.
