The Alexandria Police Foundation (APF) is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing resources to the Alexandria Police Department to improve officer performance, morale, and effectiveness, and to ensure the care and well-being of its active and retired police dogs.  With the endorsement of the Alexandria City government and the support of the leadership of the Alexandria Police Department (APD), the APF seeks resources and grants to support activities that build and strengthen police-community partnerships. The APF serves the Alexandria Police Department which in turn serves all of the residents and business people of the city of Alexandria.

Our FY 2017 goals and initiatives revolve around 3 main programs – COPS, Kids and K-9s. These include:

-       We fund and support the Community Oriented Policing Section (COPS) in their programs and efforts to promote a partnership between the APD and the community, especially at-risk children and families.  This includes funding for community events such as neighborhood clean-ups, sports events for at-risk children, Thanksgiving and Christmas programs, the Law Enforcement Youth Academy and neighborhood barbecues.

-       Purchase medical insurance and food for 3 retired K-9 police dogs.

-       Purchase ballistic vests for 2 active K-9 police dogs.  We provided vests for the other 7 dogs in 2016.

-       Sponsor 20 disadvantaged Alexandria children to attend the Alexandria Police Youth Camp.
