For nearly a century, the iron and steel was the backbone of Alabama industry.  This great industry got its humble start in 18th century ironworks like the Tannehill Ironworks and the Brierfield Ironworks.  Now these furnaces are quiet, but their stories live on.

The Alabama Historic Ironworks Foundation supports the preservation, projects, and programs of Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park and Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park.  We are dedicated to preserving these monuments to our shared history and the beautiful natural areas that now surround them.

These sites embody the industrial history that played a huge role in the development of Alabama as it exists today.  They offer guests an experience unlike any other available nearby and a personal connection to a storied history that belongs to each and every one of us. Each year 550,000 people come to enjoy these parks.

Tannehill and Brierfield are much more than just monuments though.  Our services include:

- Educational programs that bring history to life for students

- The Iron and Steel Museum of Alabama at Tannehill

- Great family friendly annual events

- Outdoor recreation – camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, geocaching, and horseback riding

Tannehill and Brierfield are no longer funded by the State of Alabama.  They rely on earned income and your support to keep offering great programs, events, and recreational facilities.  Join the park of your choice today and keep history alive!
