Since 2011, Konojel has served more than 55,000 nutritious lunches in San Marcos La Laguna, Solola, Guatemala. We provide a hearty vegetarian lunch every weekday to 60 of the most at-risk individuals, including children, pregnant and nursing mothers, and elders who are often overlooked at home when food is scarce. 

Konojel’s lunch program works to strengthen and stabilize the weakest members of an impoverished community in which almost 7 in 10 children suffer the effects of chronic malnutrition, and adult literacy is 25%. The food served at Konojel represents a tremendous improvement in the diet of those who eat there, The menu includes fresh vegetables, both cooked and raw in salads, proteins, superfoods, and many other components of a balanced diet.

The Children's Education Program engages in activities that strengthen academic and social skills while providing a space for kids to be kids. We support children from birth through elementary school – tailoring learning opportunities to the developmental needs of individuals.

The Adult Vocational Training program provides job training in dignified and empowering fields that encourage advancement in knowledge and salary. Our current program is focused on training and placement of kitchen staff in restaurants in our community as well as microbusiness incubation.

 

 

 

Konojel means "All Together” in Kaqchikel, the Mayan dialect spoken in San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala. That’s exactly what we do -- bring people together to do incredible things. Help support our work by participating in our fundraisers, donating, or volunteering with us.
