Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society

The Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society (AHGS) is a grass roots, non-profit organization and chartered by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1994.

The Society is governed by a Board of Directors. Membership is open to any applicant interested in furthering the mission of the society which is :

1. To promote genealogy and family history
2. To provide instruction in factual research, record keeping and provenance
3. To locate and preserve public and private records and assure their availability to society members and the general public
4. To assist and support other genealogical and historical research

We are a volunteer organization with outreach services to include a member recruitment program, publishing a quarterly newsletter, provide research assistance and information exchange with persons throughout the United States, who have an interest in past and present inhabitants of our area. The AHGS is their link to locating information about places, dates and events which took place in Alleghany County and the surrounding areas over the last two hundred plus years.
