Alta Community Enrichment's mission is to create opportunities in arts, culture, and education for the enhancement and well-being of the Little Cottonwood Canyon community. Our vision is to create a welcoming and safe space where the community is empowered through arts, culture, & education.
ACE currently hosts 200 year round arts, culture, and education events for free or very little cost to an average of 6,000 people annually. Our events are diverse enough to bring out folks of all ages, and no experience is required to participate in any event. ACE maintains small class sizes that enable an intimate environment where participants have access to one-on-one instruction. Our events include, but are not limited to, the Wildflower and Snowflake Festivals, Mountainfilm Tour Stop, Live Music, Welcome to Winter, Alta Kid’s Day, Alta Earth Day, Alta Biathlon, Women’s Arm Wrestling as well as weekly wellbeing, education and art instruction. Some examples of art instruction: printmaking, painting, calligraphy, culinary arts. ...as you can see we like to keep it very diverse. ACE’s programming is hands on, where each participant goes home with instructions, recipes and a finished product.
We do not just provide events; we have a Mental Health/Wellbeing program, Alta School Outreach Program, Grant Program to support community endeavors, Artist in Residence Program, Creative Placemaking Program, and a Community Outreach Program.
The ACE Grant Program started in 2007 with the Artist Grant. Currently, ACE has multiple grants (artist, entrepreneurial, wellbeing) awarded annually to community members. Since 2009 the Alta School Outreach Program has established new arts, culture and education programming at our one room public school located in Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge in Alta. ACE’s Community Support Program has supported Utah Avalanche Center, Our Lady of the Snows, Alta Radio, two community members in need, donated to National Alliance of Mental Illness, and installed a bike repair stand. Our Creative Placemaking Program four outdoor public art murals created by local artists. Upon seeing the need for Mental Health support after Alta experienced two suicides in four days in 2017, ACE has committed to increase mental health awareness within in our community and began a Mental Health Program in November 2018.
ACE highlights and utilizes local artists and educators from Alta and the Salt Lake Valley. We work closely with the Utah Avalanche Center, Cottonwood Canyons Foundation, US Forest Service, the Town of Alta, Alta Ski Area, Alta Environmental Center, Alta Historical Society and Friends of Alta. There are nearly 100 volunteers that work with us throughout the year.
