This Fall marks our 3 ½ year anniversary! I'm excited to give you an update on our progress.
We have provided over 250 people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia in Massachusetts with an mp3 music player and headset, each one personalized with their favorite music. Generally, each player delivered contains between 80 - 150 songs.
Music that is familiar and cherished can awaken memories, engage the mind, trigger positive emotional states and calm agitation. It’s so simple…and yet one of the most significant ways we can support people with dementia, and impact their day-to-day experience.
We're proud that we've served not only people in extended-care facilities, but also home-based individuals — an underserved and often invisible population. Also, that our services are entirely free of charge, making music accessible, regardless of personal resources.
Evidence of how this simple intervention changes the quality of life for them (and their families), couldn’t be clearer.
Dr. Oliver Sacks, who worked for many years with the elderly suffering from dementia, said this: “No matter their condition, all of them, without exception, respond to music."
Here's one story of transformation (from Alicia, MA):
"Yesterday I finally had the time and place for my sister Mary to listen the playlist you put together for her. Watching her was the most amazing thing I have seen in a long time. I put the headset on her to listen to Fats Domino, and it was as if someone flipped a light switch! I haven’t seen her that animated in years. She jumped up and began to dance! The music tapped into someplace she hasn’t visited in a long time. She just loved it, and it opened up conversation in a way that was very different. She began to reminisce and talk about when she lived in Boston before she was married. Our conversation suddenly had a flow that hasn’t been there in a long time.
You are doing wonderful work Peter. Thank you so much for this lovely gift. It is deeply appreciated on so many levels.
All the best to you and your family,
Alicia"

Our goal for 2018 is to continue the mission and take our organization to the next level of growth with a part-time, development and administrative position. With your help, we know we can do it.
Thanks in advance for your support.
