Horses, donkeys, and mules provide the economic backbone for most of the developing world.  They peform crucial services to individual families and entire regions. Yet, in spite of their tremendous importance, most are working in a chronic state of suffering due to malnutrition, dehydration, injuries, mistreatment, and exhaustion.

The Brooke works in 11 of the world's poorest countries to alleviate the suffering of these animals, which in turn helps the poor owners who rely on the animals for their livelihoods. We do this through direct veterinary intervention, as well as training local health providers, farriers, harness makers, and of course the animal owners themselves in ways to make sustainable, lasting improvements to the welfare of their animals.

Last year the Brooke reached more than 1.4 million horses, donkeys and mules benefitting several million of the world's poorest people.  Our goal is to reach at least 2 million animals each year by 2016.

For 80 years the Brooke has been able to alleviate suffering by partnering with donors like you who care enough to be involved. Please join the world's largest international equine welfare organization as we expand into new areas to reach even more animals and their desperate owners, in places where no other help is currently available to them.
