The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.

The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

A gift of any size to the American Red Cross will save the day when the next emergency strikes: When a house burns down in your community; When someone needs a lifesaving blood transfusion; When a family needs to contact a deployed service member in an emergency; When a child needs a hug and a blanket.

The gift that saves the day is the gift you give today!

Your gift supports the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross down the street, across the country and around the world.

Examples of how your gift will be used:

  • In a disaster, children and families are often exposed to the elements. Warm, cozy blankets will protect them from the cold and help them sleep comfortably in our shelters.

  • While families struggle to rebuild their lives after a disaster, Red Cross volunteers provide hearty, comforting meals to give them energy for the challenging days ahead.

  • When disaster strikes, parents can lose everything—including items needed to keep their babies healthy in the aftermath. An emergency shelter stocks infant care supplies needed in times of crisis, like formula, diapers and more.

  • Being separated from family is difficult, especially in times of an emergency. That’s why the Red Cross is there to deliver urgent messages to service members who may need to return home to attend to family. Help ensure that military families can turn to the Red Cross when they need to reach a loved one when a family emergency strikes.

  • Disaster victims often have to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. That's why a Red Cross response always begins with a safe place to sleep, hot food and a hug. A full day of emergency shelter provides urgently needed essentials, including three meals, two blankets, one cot, snacks and personal hygiene supplies for disaster victims.
