Animal Placement Bureau

A nonprofit organization

14 donors

The Animal Placement Bureau (APB) is the largest and oldest 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue organization in Lansing, MI. Incorporated in 1988, APB has no paid staff and is run entirely by volunteers, meaning that all of your donations go directly towards the wellbeing of the animals in our care. APB rescues an average of 200 dogs each year. This means we provide them with a foster home, food, and all required medical and behavioral care. Once they are ready, the dogs attend our bimonthly Pet Parades and are made available for adoption online. Potential homes are extensively screened through vet checks, references and home visits before a dog is placed with a new forever family.

Our Mission

APB believes that ALL dogs should be able to find a good home. We take in dogs from municipal animal control facilities, owner surrenders, and strays. Often the dogs that come into our care need extensive medical care or are elderly, and we make a lifelong commitment to care for them.

Part of the Family

The APB does not have a sheltering facility. Instead, all of the dogs in APB live in foster homes with volunteers who have lovingly opened their doors, families and hearts to care for homeless dogs. Each dog becomes a part of the family that it is placed with, living and eating and playing along with everyone else in the household. APB doesn't have any limit on how long the dogs stay with us, so they will stay in our homes until they find their new forever families. It is always difficult for us to say goodbye, but we make sure they are going to wonderful homes, and then we have room to save another homeless dog.

Placing our Dogs

Because we take the care of our dogs so seriously, each foster home feels much better when a new family can be fully "vetted." Applicants provide their vet information and personal references, so we can confirm that the applicant was responsible in taking care of present and past pets. Next, a home visit is performed to see if the dog will be a good match with the family. We check for adequate housing and fencing, and observe how all of the members of the family interact. Finding a great adoptive home is a happy and exciting time for everyone!
