Animal Friends of Washington County

A nonprofit organization

Animal Friends of Washington County (AFOWC) is committed to aid in the prevention of animal overpopulation; protect with loving care those animals that are abused or abandoned; and provide an environment where people can enjoy their furry friends.

AFOWC's Goals:
1. Provide a facility that will offer low-cost and no-cost spay/neuter and wellness services. The Animal Friends Clinic opened in June 2008.
2. Provide a setting for people and their pets to play in a safe and pleasant environment. We have three fully fenced dog parks (large dog park, small dog park & agility dog park).
3. Serve as a resource, training, and information center on all aspects of animal welfare.

Our overall goal is to aid in the reduction of unwanted companion animals that wind up as strays or in animal shelters, resulting from unwanted litter. We offer key veterinary services at affordable prices to low-income families so that they can afford to pay & neuter their pets and avoid having unwanted litters. Stray animals have become overwhelming and are more noticeable in 2024 than in previous years. We work with several partners who assist low-income people with financial assistance to have their pets fixed. In fiscal year ended 3-31-24, we spayed over 1,000 cats and neutered 677 male cats. One female cat can lead to 20,000 offspring within 5 years. Additionally, we neutered 527 male dogs and spayed 813 female dogs. Our work is very critical.
