Another Way acts as a safety net ready to catch an individual before they fall victim to homelessness, ill-health or an unstable living environment. Another Way's purpose is to serve children and adults with developmental disabilities during times of crisis or emergency.

Another Way is privileged to have intervened in the lives of individuals such as Dylan, John and Jeremy. Their stories are inspiring and invite us to take a moment and think about how and why we give and the impact it has on the world around us.

Dylan is an 8 year old boy with autism. As a result of his dad's job loss, Dylan, his mom, dad, and three younger siblings ended up homeless living at Fairmont Park in Riverside. Local homeless shelters had limited vacancies and were restricted to women and children. The option to move into the shelter without dad was not viable because Dylan is nonverbal and has behavorial issues. Mom could not take care of the entire family wihout Dad's assistance. The family's counselor at Inland Regional Center brought the case to Another Way and was able to coordinate with local transitional housing programs that help with the unique housing challenges faced by people with developmental disabilities. Another Way assisted in both negotiating and providing a reduced deposit on the family's apartment. Dad found another job and the family now resides in a confirmed residence.

John, diagnosed with intellectual disability, was rushed to an emergency room due to a heart condition. His heart related ailments were linked to a blood infection cauesd by severe tooth decay. John had not been to a dentist in 18 years and required nine extractions. Another Way, through generous grants provided by foundations was able to pay for dental services for John.

Jeremy, a client diagnosed with cerebral palsy, saved money to purchase an IPad and software for a dedicated communication device. Eventually, Jeremy had everything he needed, except a mounting device that would amke the IPad easily accessible to him while in his wheelchair. With much frustration and in need of funds for the mount Jeremy came to Another Way for help. Another Way was able to purchase the IPad mount. Jeremy can now engage more easily in coversation with family and friends.

The funds raised by Another Way help bridge the gap between the services Inland Regional Center provides and those not within its funding guidelines. To continue this tradition of service we need your help! Your support helps children and adults who have epilespy, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, and intellectual and developmental disability.
