Simply said, we want to help people everywhere know Jesus and love others.
We love God’s Word, celebrate the work of the Holy Spirit, and passionately engage in telling the whole world about Jesus. We practice radical generosity as we work to build a faith community that reflects the diversity of heaven by welcoming people of every ethnicity, life-stage, and economic status. We want to help everyone discover the reason they are alive as we equip, empower, and send them into whatever world God has called them to whether it is a world across an ocean or a world across town or a world across the street or their backyard fence.
We follow the model of the church at Antioch by focusing on the following distinctives: It was the world’s first intentionally multi-ethnic congregation. It brought large numbers of people to personal faith in Jesus from a variety of socio-economic circumstances, life stages, religious backgrounds, and walks of life. It practiced radical generosity as it helped the poor. It embraced the authority and importance of Scripture while also celebrating the full work of the Holy Spirit. It sent out the world’s first cross-cultural missionaries. It became a resource center that served many other local churches.
Following the sale of our North Dallas church campus in 2011, we began searching for property downtown for a new church facility that would further this vision. We focused our property search on locations that would be equally accessible to people from throughout our Metroplex via both public and private transportation while also positioning us to serve the rapidly increasing number of people living in or near the urban core. In May of 2012, we sensed God’s direction to purchase an entire city block at the corner of Lamar & Elm Streets in the Central Business District. Our new property is located across the street from the main city bus terminal (the West End Transfer Station) and from El Centro College with 12,000 students. It includes two parking lots and an existing building situated directly on the West End DART Rail station platform. This structure formerly housed the Awalt Furniture Company and had recently been rechristened as the West End Square.
Our multi-phase development plan for our new church campus includes the renovation of all five floors of the existing building and the construction of a large new auditorium along the entire length of our frontage on Elm Street. The first step in this process is the conversion of the first floor of the existing building into adult worship space and a full children’s ministry area. We began work on this initial phase in 2013 with a targeted completion date of early 2014. 5G Design Studios is serving as our Architect and Triune Services Group as our General Contractor.
We are very grateful to God that we will move into this first phase 90% debt-free. Our goal is to pay off the remaining loan balance as quickly as possible in order to free up funds for generous ministry and further property development.
