Every year, API Equality-Northern California embarks on an intensive summer internship program to develop the next generation of LGBTQ API social justice and cultural change leaders. Interns receive in depth trainings on a broad variety of topics, and employ dynamic approaches for intersectional and multi-issue based organizing. Each intern contributes in a significant way to the LGBTQ API community by completing a comprehensive summer project and providing substantial leadership for the organization. Overall, interns build meaningful relationships with different organizations and people, bring their full selves each day, work hard, laugh a lot, and have a blast.
This year, we're proud to welcome our 5th intern cohort. We need to raise $5,000 by May 15th, 9PM to develop the next generation of LGBTQ API social justice and cultural change leaders!
“My internship was a life-changing experience and after four classes, API Equality - Northern California continues to prove to be a space for community building and sense of home-coming.” - Betty Cao, 2010 Intern
“Being apart of the change that API Equality affects is an honor especially as the tenacity, strong community base, and creativity in activism of the organization only grows with each passing year.”
- Le Tran, 2012 Intern
"The internship is definitely a place where aspiring organizers will gain valuable skills, meet queer API leaders who are doing amazing work across the nation, and truly feel a sense of belonging.”
- Hai Chi, 2012 Intern
"I believe that the best work is done through the struggles you experience. API Equality - Northern California was a place that where didn’t always have to constantly validate my identity and that in itself is a wonderful luxury that I hold dear to my heart.
- Sally Tran, 2012 Intern
