ARIEL MISSION

ARIEL Theatrical is committed to helping young people learn to lead principle-centered lives.

2019 Tuck Everlasting

ARIEL STORY

For more than three decades ARIEL Theatrical has provided programs that teach young people valuable life lessons via the platform of musical theatre. ARIEL began with the idea that being part of a musical production mirrors the responsibilities of life and these parallels are easily taught in a rehearsal setting. As we model and encourage the practice of Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership, young participants learn the importance of building personal character as they create a character on stage. The thrill of performing goes hand-in-hand with the accomplishment of making principle-centered choices. This unique blend of creativity and responsibility, ARIELā€™s trademark, helps young people discover the power they hold to impact the world in positive ways. The ARIEL mission is woven into every aspect of the organization and invites individuals ā€“ whether   they are on stage, back stage or in the audience ā€“ to help make the world a better place. Annually, ARIEL serves between 450-550 participants and 20,000+ attendees with the support of 120+ volunteers. Each year we find new ways to open our doors wider to our diverse community through outreach and partnerships.

Frederick Douglass, American abolitionist, social reformer and statesman, made a very profound observation when he stated, ā€œIt is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.ā€ At ARIEL we have made it our mission to ā€œbuild strong childrenā€ by encouraging them to practice the principles of Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership. As they participate in a production they learn that applying these principles will lead to positive outcomes both on stage and in life. One particular saying that all participants learn is ā€œI can do hard things.ā€ At times, life can be difficult, but when kids approach obstacles with a can-do attitude they discover the power they hold to impact the world around them in meaningful ways. A parent of a young cast member noted that participation at ARIEL helps to ā€œcultivate productive members of our society who will grow and do great things onstage and beyond.ā€ If we can help our young participants build this kind momentum as they move into adulthood then we have succeeded.
