At least once a month, a person reads the signs in our storefront window, comes into the office and asks, “What’s this place all about, anyway? What do you do here?”—and a newer volunteer says, “We help people.” At that point, one of our older members will step in and say, “Yes, we do help people—but our real job is to change the things that make us need help in the first place!”
THE MOVEMENT IS MOVING, AND WE ARE HONORED TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO NURTURE THAT MOVEMENT.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR WORK AND OUR BELIEF THAT TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Economic Justice: We work on issues of economic justice for poor people.
Criminal Justice: We fight for police accountability and an end to police brutality in Springfield and the War on Drugs in Massachusetts.
Environmental Justice: We spread the word about threats to our community’s health and organize to stop them. We are currently working on getting a Climate Action and Resiliency plan implemented in Springfield.
Electoral: We work to involve low-income people in the electoral process.
Peace and Justice: We work to organize opposition and alternatives to war and to re-direct funds to jobs and other low income needs.
Stop Hate, Homophobia and Racism: We work to end discrimination against members and groups in the community.
“If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.”
