Arizona Behavioral Health Corporation

Arizona Behavioral Health Corporation (ABC) is a nonprofit organization that was incorporated in 1997 to provide supportive housing and community services for homeless Arizona residents with behavioral health needs and/or other disabilities.

ABC is a leader in housing some of the most difficult to serve populations: those with serious mental illness; the chronically homeless; felons; sex offenders; those with chronic health conditions (including HIV/AIDS); and those with a history of substance abuse. These issues often create barriers to housing in the community, but ABC partners with many other organizations to provide multiple resources for our participants. As a result, we have been successful in housing participants regardless of the aforementioned barriers.

Our accomplishments on behalf of the homeless include reducing move-in and waiting list times. From 2006 to 2013, ABC and our partners have reduced the search and
move-in time from 44 to 28 days and the average wait list time from seven to three months. ABC currently provides permanent supportive housing to approximately 2,360 formerly homeless persons in about 1,650 units throughout Maricopa County. Even with all of the barriers faced by the population it serves, ABC maintains an 86% participant retention rate over a 5-year period. 

ABC is also in the vanguard of initiatives to assist homeless veterans, the chronically homeless, and high utilizers of emergency rooms. ABC also develops innovative partnerships to improve the quality and effectiveness of the behavioral health delivery system.
