I am writing to tell you how AMAZING Lions Camp Tatiyee is. Without camp Tatiyee I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today, even if I am there for only a short time. It means a lot to me going to camp being with other people who are like me and understand what I go through every day the troubles and turmoil’s of being a paraplegic and knowing that at camp I can be my self with out the worry of being judged.

Back home I don’t have many friends and none that are disabled. They don’t understand what I go through on a day in day out basis. I’m sad and lonely a lot of the time. Always wondering what it’s like to walk, and to not be limited or excluded in school activities. I have to take medication to not get depressed about it.

I used to be bullied a lot in school. People would cut in front of me in the lunch line and I wouldn’t always have time to eat so I would just sit in the corner at lunch by myself trying to not cry, waiting for the bell to ring so I could go to class. Most days I’d come home from school and cry because I felt so alone.

But at camp people are nicer. I feel happy and it’s so relaxing when I’m there. I’m not worried about being judged or stressed out about anything.  Going to camp is kind of like therapy. We do things like archery and go-carts, stuff I had never done before I went to camp. Everybody is happy and having a good time. We laugh a lot I can’t think of one thing wrong with camp except that my time there is too short. I love going so much I always watch the calendar counting down the days till I can go back.

The counselors are so awesome!  There is so much love radiating from them. They make sure every single person has a really great time no matter what their disability. They really care about us unconditionally so much that they help us to realize that we can do so much more then what we think more independent and not have to rely on our families to do things for us. They are amazing people taking the time during their summers to come here; it’s truly an act of selflessness.

When I come home things don’t stress me out as much. My mom always says I’m more mature after camp and there is always a big change in how I act. I’m a different person. I’m happier, more confident much more self-sufficient and. I’m a lot more self-motivated. I always start off the school year with a really positive attitude.

Camp is sooooooo amazing and important to me because it helps me learn to accept myself a little more each year. It gives me the confidence to fight through the tough times, knowing that there is a special place where people like me can go and be accepted, helped encouraged and treated like an equal, camp is like my happy pill. And at camp I learned that being disabled is what I am I can’t change that so I cant let life get in the way of my happiness I cant let it bring me down maybe I cant stand physically but mentally I can do anything. I can’t wait to go back!!!!!
