Arthur Miller Writing Studio

$5,013 raised by 27 donors

The purpose of this campaign is to fund the relocation of Arthur Miller's writing studio onto Roxbury town land and share it as an inspirational, experiential, and learning space that also helps explore the rich literary and artistic history of Litchfield County. Generous donors have contributed $465,000 towards the $515,000 needed to complete this project. We are now looking for the final $50,000.

Built in 1958 in Roxbury, Connecticut as a no frills work space, this building is central to an understanding of Arthur Miller as a writer. He worked here almost every day while he was in Roxbury, writing and revising plays, stories, essays, poems and his autobiography Timebends. He also conducted his work in support of free speech, creative freedom, and ethical citizenship, as president of PEN International and in support of other causes.

The idea to relocate Arthur Miller’s writing studio for the public began in 2018 with his daughter, Rebecca Miller, offering the building to the Town of Roxbury and including a generous donation for its restoration and placement. With that, a movement was born. A small, dedicated group formed to help bring Rebecca’s vision to life preserving the building and inspiring generations. The group formed a 501 (c)3 non profit, including the formation of an honorary board. Grassroots funding efforts have gained the project a following of interested and loyal supporters.
