Help Build a New Training Film for Compassionate Addiction Care

Articine is developing Shadows, a new film-based training initiative designed to help healthcare professionals
respond to substance use disorder with greater empathy, less stigma, and deeper understanding.

What your gift supports

Your gift helps Articine move Shadows from research and development toward a future training resource for healthcare professionals and behavioral health audiences. Current development includes:

  • research and development interviews
  • thought-partner engagement
  • script development
  • educational framing
  • preparation for future pilot and evaluation work

Why this matters

Substance use disorder is too often met with fear, misunderstanding, and judgment in healthcare settings. Articine’s Shadows materials cite research indicating that nearly 40% of people with substance use disorder avoid life-saving care out of fear of judgment.

Shadows is being developed in response to that gap. Adapted from a physical theater drama about addiction, family crisis, and hope, the project uses movement-based storytelling to help healthcare professionals better understand the lived realities of addiction and engage patients and families with greater compassion.

Why Articine

Articine has already demonstrated through Dottie that arts-based storytelling can function as serious healthcare education. Shadows builds on that arts-and-medicine model and extends it into a new area of urgent need: substance use disorder and behavioral health.

Your support helps Articine apply a credible educational approach to one of healthcare’s most pressing compassion gaps.

Healthcare providers who've seen it say:

"People with dementia are real people with feelings and not just tasks in front of us."

"Think of a day in their shoes. Try to remember who they were."

The Problem

Many New Hampshire hospitals, nursing homes, and health centers can't afford training like this. Our rural facilities especially struggle with limited budgets for staff development.

Your donation changes that.
