8 Years Strong — and Still Growing!

How We Began

In August of 2018, something extraordinary happened.

With award-winning filmmaker Franco Barbeite leading the way, Arts Accelerator held its very first Screenwriting & Filmmaking Masterclass. In just two days, ten brave creatives—many with no prior film experience—came together to write and shoot two short films, Theft and God’s Plan. Both went on to be selected by the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival.

That weekend proved something powerful:When opportunity meets community, talent rises.

Inspired by the success of that proof of concept, the Arts Accelerator officially formed and received its 501(c)(3) status on October 31, 2018. Since then, we’ve been working tirelessly to uplift creatives, strengthen the ecosystem, and help artists turn passion into sustainable careers.

Our Growth & Impact Over the Years

What began as a single workshop has evolved into a regional creative movement expanding by leaps and bounds year after year and now we are serving over 2000 creatives annually.

In 2023, we became the City Producers for the 48 Hour Film Project and launched the Florida Filmmaker Showcase—a festival dedicated to film production, talent discovery, and income-generating opportunities for local filmmakers.

In 2024, we expanded even further, introducing: Live Script Readings, Casting & Networking Events, The Writers Room – Story Development Labs

In 2025, we delivered our most ambitious year yet—12 months of robust programming in both Miami-Dade and Broward, including:

• 1 Screenwriting Masterclass

• 4 Live Script Readings with over 350 attendees and 24 scripts showcased

• 1 Arts Accelerator Film Festival with 800+ attendees

• 5 films selected for the Florida Filmmaker Showcase omnibus feature

• 4 Casting & Networking Events engaging 400+ creatives

• 16 Writers Rooms – Story Development Labs

• 32 filmmaking teams creating 32 new short films for the 48 Hour Film Project

• More than 2,000 creatives served annually across Dade and Broward

These programs don’t just teach, connect, and inspire—they create industry pathways, build careers, and strengthen the cultural identity of South Florida.
