AALDEF, founded in 1974, is a New York-based national organization that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans. By combining litigation, advocacy, education, and organizing, AALDEF works with Asian American communities across the country to secure human rights for all. Current program priorities include immigrant rights, economic justice, housing and environmental justice, voting rights and democracy, and ending hate violence against Asian Americans.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and its devastating impacts on Asian American communities, AALDEF will use #GiveInMay contributions to support the following activities: 1) to provide legal assistance to victims of anti-Asian harassment and violence, and to document incidents of coronavirus-related racism against Asian Americans;

2) to provide multilingual legal rights fact sheets to assist low-wage Asian immigrant workers seeking unemployment benefits, information about immigration law changes and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and access to health care, temporary relief from housing costs, and other Covid-19 related emergency assistance programs;

3) to ensure that all Asian Americans, especially those in need of language assistance, are able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming November 2020 elections.

AALDEF has a 46-year history of defending the civil rights of immigrants, low-wage workers, students, trafficking survivors, and voters, especially new citizens and persons with limited English proficiency.
