At Asian Health Services (AHS), we believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right, and language should never be a barrier to accessing quality care.

Imagine the frustration and fear of not being able to communicate effectively with your doctor in a moment of need. For many in our community, this is not just a hypothetical scenario—it's a daily reality. But with your help, we can ensure language and culture are never a barrier to care

For 50 years, AHS has provided health care for all and advocacy for the underserved.

In 1974 UC Berkeley student activists opened a one room clinic in Oakland Chinatown after seeing the gaps in health care for the growing Asian population in the East Bay.

Now, 50 years later, AHS is proud to offer culturally competent medical, dental, behavioral health, and community services to 50,000 patients in the Bay Area across 14 languages, including 12 Asian languages. From Cantonese to Tagalog, Mongolian to Lao, our multilingual staff ensures that every patient feels understood and empowered to make informed decisions about their health.

2024 AHS Impact

One of our patients shared with us recently,

“AHS is an organization that serves the people wholeheartedly. It works hard to relieve people's hardship and health. From distributing food every month, from the doctors’ years of efforts in treating my wife’s Alzheimer's disease, to my emergency tooth extraction—each one touches my heart.”

But maintaining these vital services require ongoing support from compassionate individuals like you. Please join us in our mission to ensure that language and culture are never a barrier to care.

Give today to:

  • Champion health equity and social justice for all
  • Help us break down language barriers to accessing quality health care
  • Build healthier communities

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, your support, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.

Asian Health Services serves 50,000 patients in English and 14 different languages: Cantonese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Mien, Lao, Mongolian, Karen, Karenni, Arabic, ASL, and Burmese.

We provide health, social, and advocacy services for all regardless of income, insurance status, immigration status, language, or culture. Our approach to wellbeing focuses on “whole patient health,” which is why we provide more than primary care services, including mental health, case management, nutrition, and dental care.
