Transforming Lives – Strengthening Community

“Transforming Lives – Strengthening Community”; words to live by.  While it may seem rather presumptuous to think we can transform lives, let’s look at what we do that affects members of the communities we serve from newborns to senior citizens.

Our Knit Wits knit baby caps and blankets and several times a year deliver them for the newborns at Palomar Hospital, bringing joy to a new mother upon receiving a beautiful handmade creation.

From newborns, we move on to toddlers and preschoolers attending Growing Minds Child Care Centers.  Assistance League® provides diapers and clothing, and more importantly, hands-on reading and playing side by side with the children. We have organized a parents’ night and invited a children’s author to help both children and adults learn to love reading and make time for reading at home, a valuable preparation for kindergarten and the educational journey ahead.

In grade school, middle school and high school, Operation School Bell® provides school clothing and shoes to low-income, foster and homeless children. Assistance League volunteers shop with the children and their families and partner with JC Penney. Children who have well-fitting shoes and clothes like their peers will be motivated to do better in school and have far better attendance records.

Scholarship programs have been transforming the lives of high school and college students for many years.  We provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors as well as students at Cal State San Marcos School of Nursing and Palomar College students in the Nursing program, the EMT, and Trade Tech programs.  We were recently honored by Palomar College by having two classrooms named for us in recognition of donating over $500,000 in Scholarships since 2008, and received the first ever Distinguished Partner of the Year award from Cal State San Marcos.

Project Seniors program provides services to the homeless and seniors such as grocery gift cards and miscellaneous gifts along with visits to those who are unable to shop for themselves.

The Assisteens® Auxiliary encourages and provides volunteer opportunities for young people in grades 7 through 12

Through every phase of life, the various programs of Assistance League of Inland North County illustrate how we do transform lives and strengthen communities.

Improving the lives of children and adults through our hands-on, all-volunteer run programs is what we do; Assistance League of Inland North County is who we are!
