Atlas Performing Arts Center

The Atlas Performing Arts Center is located in a historic movie theatre complex on H Street, NE in Washington, DC. H Street, NE had been a bustling retail corridor for decades before the 1968 riots. Vacant for years afterward, the Atlas movie theatre re-opened in 2006 following an extensive four-year renovation that transformed it into a state-of-the-art performing arts center. The Atlas immediately became a treasured resource to arts organizations seeking a performance home in Washington and to residents in the Near Northeast community and beyond.

The Atlas is more than a venue for performances – it’s a place where people meet and experience innovative arts programs and artists grow and connect with diverse audiences.  You’ll find quality performances in jazz and new music, bold theatre productions, one-of-a-kind family arts events and much more.  One of the Atlas’ major performance initiatives is its annual three-week arts event, INTERSECTIONS: A New America Arts Festival (February 23 – March 11, 2012) that features over 700 artists in more than 100 performances.  In addition to presenting, the Atlas also engages the community through its Stagecraft Training and Apprenticeship Program and its Arts Education Collaborative.  It is the Atlas’ vision to offer a range of dynamic programming that serves as a platform for those community conversations in which people can celebrate artistic and cultural connections.
