Audrey's Angels was founded in 2001 by Audrey and Bob Alderson after the family made the loving decision to place their Aunt Betty in a small group home in Scottsdale, Arizona.   Though the residents were physically well cared for, the family quickly realized the residents were in need of more socialization from the ouside world.  Aunt Betty was one of the few that had regular visits from family members.  We began serving 9 care homes with 5 volunteers and have since grown with over 80 dedicated musicians and crafters bringing our therapeutic programs to over 150 locations throughout the Valley of the Sun!  The live interactive, therapeutic music programs we bring to the care homes licensed for up to 10 residents provide important benefits beyond entertainment.  Interaction with our musicians, who we refer to as "Music Angels", helps to alleviate the loneliness and isolation felt by most of the seniors we serve.  In many cases it eliminates or lessens Sundowner's Syndrome and feelings of depression.  Research has shown that music therapy sessions promote wellness, help residents manage stress and alleviate pain, enhance their memory, and improve their communications.  Our music sessions are a form of sensory stimpulation which provide responses due to the familiarity, predictability, and feelings of security associated with it.  Our Angels' sing-a-longs maintain and improve senior cognitive abilities including language skills and group activities encourage socialization.  For many residents we serve, we are their only connection to the world outside of their care home.
