The mission of the Foundation is to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen our regional food system through the use of conventional farming methods and cultivation of non-GMO and organic crops.
John Ubaldo, the founder of the August West Foundation, working on Wall Street and distraught after the 9/11 attacks, chose to leave the corporate world and purchased a farm that would feed his family and his community using healthy, non-chemical free farming techniques—a return to safe agricultural methods.
His approach to growing chemical free crops and raising organic livestock uses the natural farming methods practiced by our agricultural ancestors.
The AWF is dedicated to educating local farmers in the New York and New England areas on sustainable farming and at the same time raising the public's consciousness of how our food supply is being poisoned by Big Ag, threatening our lives and that of our children's.
With a model that brings us a safe food supply and at the same time increases the profitabilty of local farms, the AWF brings economic development to the communities that need it the most.
The August West Foundation is ready to move to our next phase in expanding the number of farmers in the foundation's co-op and increasing a healthy chemical free food supply.
In order to realize our goals we have created a campaign to build a grain mill to produce non-GMO grains.
