About Aurora Theatre

Aurora Theatre at Lawrenceville Arts Center celebrates humanity’s rich cultural fabric through creative and educational programming, cultivating a community of belonging for all.

The dream of Co-Founders Anthony Rodriguez and Ann Carol Pence, Aurora Theatre was founded in 1996, presenting professional productions of plays and musicals in a converted hardware store in Duluth, GA. Ten years later, the City of Lawrenceville purchased a 100-year-old church and transformed it into a theatre complex, which opened in May of 2007 and became Aurora Theatre’s home. This year, we celebrate our 30th Season in the expanded Lawrenceville Arts Center, a world-class facility housing four theatres and an outdoor courtyard, all equipped to host performances and events.

Aurora has grown to be the 3rd largest professional theatre company in Georgia, presenting professional productions of Broadway musicals and plays, exciting contemporary theatre, concerts, stand-up comedy, metro Atlanta’s top haunted attraction—Lawrenceville Ghost Tours, and a robust list of events under the Aurora Global series that celebrate the heritage and culture of our diverse communities. We are proud to celebrate and represent the 7th most diverse county in the US.

Our Children’s Playhouse series, ranging from puppet shows and children’s musicals to science education experiences, presents family-focused events and entertainers, connecting Aurora Theatre and the youngest members of our community. We produce curriculum-based plays for more than 10,000 students, many of whom experience their first theatrical production through our Learning Library educational series. Aurora Academy provides classes for all ages year round with instructors who are working professionals with years of real-world theatrical experience. Also included in our robust arts education initiatives is "Imaginations at Play", a theatre for very young program aimed to improve literacy and kindergarten readiness.

As a cultural and economic engine of Lawrenceville’s historic downtown square, we strive to ensure that our offerings are reflective of and welcoming to everyone in Gwinnett’s diverse community.
